The Philippine Embassy in London processes applications for the retention and reacquisition of Philippine citizenship for former natural-born Filipinos in the United Kingdom and, in some cases, Ireland.
Under UK law, British citizens are allowed to hold dual citizenship. The embassy also conducts consular outreach missions for dual citizenship services in various locations, including Jersey.
Who is eligible to apply?
Natural-born citizens of the Philippines who have lost their citizenship through naturalization in the UK or another foreign country are eligible.
Natural-born citizens are those who acquired Philippine citizenship by birth (jus sanguinis) without performing any act to acquire or perfect their citizenship.
This includes those whose fathers or mothers are Filipino citizens at the time of their birth, those born before 17 January 1973 of Filipino mothers who elect Philippine citizenship upon reaching the age of majority, and others meeting specific conditions.
What are the requirements for the principal applicant?
Principal applicants must submit one original and one photocopy of the duly accomplished application form, three colored passport-size photos on white or royal blue background taken within the last six months, proof of natural citizenship (PSA Birth Certificate or Report of Birth), proof of naturalization (Certificate of Nationality with sworn English translation and apostille), foreign passport or residence/identity card, and old Philippine passport (if available).
Married women applicants must also submit a Marriage Certificate.
What are the requirements for dependent minor children?
Applicants may include their unmarried children below 18 years of age as dependents.
For each dependent, the applicant must submit the child's birth certificate (international version apostilled), passport or residence/identity card, photos, and a fee of €25.00 (or the equivalent).
What are the fees?
The application fee is GBP 46.00 for adult applicants (18 years and up) and GBP 23.00 for minor dependents (17 years and below).
For those requesting certified true copies of dual citizenship documents, the fee is GBP 23.00 per document, payable via postal money order (UK residents) or bank draft (Ireland residents) made payable to "PHILIPPINE EMBASSY LONDON".
How to schedule and attend the appointment?
Applicants should go to the embassy's appointment scheduling page and select a schedule to submit their requirements.
After submitting the complete application, a consular officer will call the applicant for their oath-taking ceremony schedule.
The oath of allegiance is taken in front of the consul on the appointed date at the embassy.
For outreach missions in locations like Jersey, interested applicants are advised to email their documents to the embassy for pre-screening, indicating "Dual Citizenship Jersey Outreach" in the subject field.
